The Leavers (II)

 

The Leavers series of painting-photographs depicts previous houses that the artist’s family lived in, from Vietnam to the United States. Based on archival family photographs, the artist went back to these home locations and photographed them from the same camera angles. The referent photographs are turned into oil pastel paintings that resemble coloring book images with the lines removed. Thus the “fuzzy” past is inlaid and entwined with a more “defined” present, yet both fragmented.
